SEO strategy for Squarespace and all websites in general.

I want this page to consist of my rundown for SEO

which is keyword research, competitive analysis, ppc campaign analysis.

With keyword research I use a variation of tools to determine the sweet spot of the veen diagram consisting of high volume, relevancy to brand and goals, and low competition. These are typically keywords. Next is to determine which of these keywords would be best to rank for as your main keyword. Probably something in your URL the main focus of the website.

Then we focus on this work and the many variations of it. We use an aggressive strategy featuring many pages/post about the subject. Featured articles from the homepage and promotion of info-graphics on Social Media.

Also I optimize the website, making sure the site structure displays what we need it to in terms of importance to us. Proper use of Meta tag, meta data for every page, h1 h2 h3 tags, body text with appropriate density and keyword ratio. File names, and Alt text and alt names for images.

Directory submission for local results and backlinking campaigns. For off page success. Skyscraper technique. Heres how it works:

We find the most popular and successful article that you clients like. and we improve them by 20%. via adding graphics, addressing points made in comments, more in depth and longer as well as better looking which accompanying factual data and relevant links. People love facts and footnotes.

Also analytics, installed analytics with webmaster tools letting you see how Google views your website. how people spend time on your website, what they look at the most. Heat maps of mouse movement (one day).

Backlinks are the major factors baby. We reach out to people who have linked to this previous content and try replace em with better info.

The Key points I want my article to hit are:

  1. Define what is SEO & Squarespace SEO

Seo is short for Search Engine Optimization. Meaning Optimizing a website to perform as desired in Search Engines, typically through targeted/relevant keywords. Squarespace SEO is Squarespace Search Engine Optimization. There is nothing special about Squarespace SEO to achieve great results with Squarespace SEO the same best practices should be utilized. Some of the best practices are Proper use of of Headings tags, making sure to fill out Meta Descriptions and Alt tags, Backlinking and Social Media and much more. A Lot of my clients ask me is Squarespace any good for SEO or isn't Wordpress better for SEO? Squarespace and Wordpress are both Content Management Systems and what matters most in CMS performance is having access(Some CMS make this difficult or don't even allow it at all) to assign H1, H2 and H3 tags, Changing the Site titles and Meta Descriptions.

  1. Sitemaps and XML Bullshit

Another reason why Squarespace is Awesome is that it automatically generates a Sitemap for you. Sitemaps are important to SEO because they help A Search Engine understand what your site is about and rank it appropriately. When we look at a website we see this but when a Search Engine looks at a website it sees this. That being said it's not something we have to check out because Squarespace does it for you automatically. Squarespace automatically generates and links a proper sitemap.xml, which enumerates every URL and image metadata on your site with proper priority for perfect indexing even if you use a Javascript-heavy template. For more information, visit Your site map.

  1. Emphasis Squarespace use of Clean HTML Markups

Squarespace Squarespace produces pages with clean HTML markup that is indexable by search engines. There’s no need to to add <h1> and <h2> tags in HTML. Just select a Heading style, and those tags are created for you.

Images contain proper <alt> and <title> tags, improving search engine indexing. All meta tags forpages and <link> tags for RSS feeds are automatically generated. Image descriptions are converted to <alt> tags.

  1. Meta-Descriptions

Meta description tags, while not important to search engine rankings, are extremely important in gaining user click-through from SERPs. These short paragraphs are a webmaster’s opportunity to advertise content to searchers and to let them know exactly whether the given page contains the information they're looking for.

The meta description should employ the keywords intelligently, but also create a compelling description that a searcher will want to click. Direct relevance to the page and uniqueness between each page’s meta description is key. The description should optimally be between 150-160 characters.

  1. Mobile Optimization

Google recently updated their technology to give mobile-optimized sites a higher priority. We’ve anticipated the importance of mobile since the original introduction of Squarespace 6 back in 2012, where we mandated that all templates retain a unique style on mobile devices. We’ve scanned all Squarespace 7 templates using Google’s Mobile-Friendly Testing Tool and can say that all of ourtemplates passed the test with flying colors.

Today, mobile-friendly sites are search-engine friendly sites. As long as you don’t disable your mobile style or overload your site with too much content, your site is ready to be found in mobile searches.

  1. SEO Friendly Theme

As beautiful as all Squarespace templates are there are not all SEO equal. You can judge a themes SEO friendliness based on the amount of SEO opportunities it presents, What are SEO opportunities? Headings, Content and Images.
